Toggle Seats

Toggle seats are small parts, but they carry serious load in a jaw crusher. We supply inspected toggle seats for repairs where support, alignment and wear control matter.

What a toggle seat does in a jaw crusher

A toggle seat sits at the contact point for the toggle assembly and helps transfer load in a controlled way during crushing. In a jaw crusher repair, this part plays a direct role in alignment, load support and the way the toggle bears against the moving parts. When the seat is worn, cracked or out of spec, the crusher can run noisy, heat up at the wrong point and put extra strain on nearby components.

For quarry and mine maintenance teams, a correct toggle seat is not just a small spare. It affects how the machine takes shock loads, how long the toggle assembly lasts, and whether the unit can be returned to service after a shutdown without repeat breakdowns. We list, inspect and move surplus toggle seats between operations, so usable parts do not sit idle in a yard while another site is waiting on repairs.

Our Middelburg base supports exchanges and deliveries into eMalahleni, Rustenburg, Polokwane, Kathu, Pietermaritzburg and other South African quarrying areas. That helps during planned shutdowns and also when a machine needs a quick change over before a production loss grows into a bigger problem.

Sizes, profiles and fit options we handle

Toggle seats are supplied in different profiles depending on the crusher make, jaw size and the design of the toggle system. Some are cast as a matched pair, while others are supplied as a single seat for a specific side or position. We handle surplus seats for common jaw crusher ranges used in quarry and mine service, and each unit is checked for matching geometry before exchange or dispatch.

When ordering, the useful details are the crusher model, jaw opening, serial number if available, and whether you need a standard seat or a repaired part that still matches your wear pattern. A quick photo of the old seat, plus measurements taken across the contact face, often saves time and avoids the wrong part arriving on site.

  • Jaw crusher model and size
  • Single seat or matched pair
  • Condition required: reusable, repairable or scrap for exchange
  • Material type if known, such as cast steel or manganese alloy
  • Dimensions across the seat face, height and bolt or locating points
  • Any heat marks, cracks, oval wear or broken corners

Where toggle seats are used and when to replace them

Toggle seats suit primary and secondary jaw crushers working in hard rock, aggregate, sand and stone production. They are common on fixed plant that runs through long hours, dusty conditions and stop-start cycles. In places like Middelburg, Secunda and eMalahleni, heat, fine dust and load-shedding related starts and stops can all add to wear. Coastal moisture in Pietermaritzburg and humid storage conditions can also affect any spare that is left uncovered for too long.

Replacement is usually due when the contact area is cupped, scored or flattened beyond service tolerance, or when cracks show around the seat edge. If the toggle does not sit square, or there is uneven bearing on one side, the jaw can run poorly and damage the mating parts. On site, some teams only notice it when the crusher starts knocking under load, by then the damage is often already spreading.

  • Operations keeping exchange stock for faster turnarounds

Installation notes, power needs and safe fitment

Toggle seats do not need electrical or gas supply on their own, but their installation belongs inside a powered crusher shutdown with proper isolation, lock-out and lifting control. Before fitting, the machine should be fully isolated, residual tension released, and the mating areas cleaned so the seat sits flat. Any dirt, burrs or old grease under the seat can throw the alignment off and shorten service life.

Fitment should be done with the correct lifting gear and the proper torque on associated fasteners where applicable. If the seat is being fitted as part of a larger repair, check the toggle plate, cheek plates, swing jaw support and bearings at the same time. A new or serviceable seat put into a badly aligned assembly will not solve the fault, it usually just moves the problem somewhere else.

For shutdown work, we can assist with urgent spares search, local collection, palletising and packing, and nationwide delivery from Middelburg. That matters when a plant is down and the team needs the seat on site before the next shift starts.

Inspection, condition reporting and storage

We inspect surplus toggle seats before they are listed or exchanged. The aim is to separate usable stock from parts that should be scrapped, repaired or kept only for a donor exchange. This reduces waste and gives quarries a practical source of parts that still have service life left in them.

Inspection focuses on wear depth, edge cracking, distortion, corrosion and any sign of heat damage. For parts coming from outdoor yards or older plant, we also check whether the contact faces have been chipped by poor handling. If needed, we can store the item in our Middelburg yard, palletised and packed for dispatch when the plant is ready.

  • Visual crack checks
  • Wear face and edge condition
  • Dimensional match against the requested crusher
  • Storage suitability for short or longer holding periods
  • Whether the part qualifies for exchange, resale or scrap

What to check before you place an order

Because toggle seats are fitment-critical, the more detail you send, the faster we can confirm the right part. Please check the crusher model plate, take a clear photo of the old seat, and note whether the machine uses standard or non-standard geometry. If your site keeps service records, include the last change date and any previous alignment issues.

It also helps to tell us whether the need is for one unit or a set, and whether you are planning for planned maintenance or an urgent breakage. On some sites the old seat is kept as a pattern, but if it has already fractured or worn unevenly it may not be accurate enough. In that case, measurements and crusher data matter more than the old part itself.

  • Crusher make, model and serial number if available
  • Required quantity
  • Old part photo and key measurements
  • Desired condition: used, inspected or exchange basis
  • Delivery location and deadline

Why quarries use our exchange route

Crusher Spare Exchange supports the practical side of quarry maintenance. We list surplus parts, inspect them, store them where needed, and arrange movement between operations across South Africa. That gives clients a way to recover value from unused stock while sourcing the spares they actually need for daily production.

With a base in Middelburg and support across regional areas such as Lydenburg, Rustenburg, Polokwane, Kathu and Secunda, we are set up for real plant timing, not just tidy paperwork. If a toggle seat is sitting in a yard while another quarry is waiting for a shutdown repair, it makes sense to move it. The aim is simple, keep working parts in use and keep crusher downtime as short as possible.

Founded in 2012 and led by Thabo Johannes Mokoena, our team handles inspections, sales, logistics and yard control so buyers and sellers can deal with one point of contact. That matters when the next shift is close and the crusher still has to run, same day if possible.

Questions we get asked

How do I know which toggle seat I need?

Send the crusher model, serial number if available, a photo of the old seat and the main measurements. That is usually enough for us to match the correct part or tell you what else needs checking.

Can you supply toggle seats for shutdown work?

Yes. We regularly support planned maintenance and urgent shutdown sourcing. If the part is in stock or already in exchange circulation, we can help with quick collection and delivery.

Do toggle seats need power or gas for installation?

The part itself does not need power or gas, but fitting must be done during a safe crusher shutdown with proper isolation, lifting gear and alignment checks.
